The 2009 Season of the Bean Blossom Music Series
First Concert of the 2009 Season – Tom Shinness – On Sunday, June 28 at 7 pm, composer/recording artist/session musician Tom Shinness opened our 2009 season with music that’s been described as …genre-bending works for solo harpguitar and unconventional instruments…a warm fusion of new age, contemporary jazz, and folk…passion and inspiration..conviction and comfort. Tom’s music has been featured on NPR and PBS. He comes to us from Big Nashville – the one in Tennessee.
Second Concert of the 2009 Season – The Chicago Reed Quartet - On August 23, Bean Blossom heard the Indiana premier performance of this brand-new ensemble. Masahito “Mas” Sugihara, Saxophone, arranges most of the music and teaches saxophone and chamber music at Northwestern University and Roosevelt University. Cory Tiffin, Clarinet, is a founding member of the Anaphora Ensemble and newly named Principal Clarinet for Green Bay Symphony Orchestra. Tim Sawier, Oboe, is a Curtis Institute of Music alumni and a former member of the CYSO (Chicago Youth Symphony Orchestra). Jason Carlson, Bassoon, is also staff accompanist at Northwestern University. Visit Mas Sugihara’s site to hear some of his transcriptions.
Third Concert of the 2009 Season – Jonathan and Deborah Hutchison - The Bean Blossom Music Series concludes its 2009 season with a performance by singer-songwriters and recording artists Deborah & Jonathan Hutchison, on Sunday, November 8 at 7 pm. “Strong, exciting and moving,” their music is a unique mix, from folk to rock, classical to jazz, R&B to gospel, featuring trademark vocal harmonies accompanied on guitar, flute and piano. Their songs of hope and celebration encourage listeners to join in.
